When we are in a problem or situation in which we do not know what to do and when we decide to do something it does not go as we wanted, we start regretting and wishing to have a rewind button or traveling in time so we can fix the mistake that we have done; obviously in fiction there is this kind of posibility in which we can change things and make an alternative future. In contrast, in real life, must of the time, we only have one oportunity for making the best decision, there is no way back; the decision that we’d choose put us in a kind of climax in our life. The decision must be for us the best option and for the others, if we make a mistake it is a lack of possibilities that we can fix it.
A great example for explaning this isTom Tykwer`s film “Lola rennt”, in wich it explains how decisions are important in a crucial problem. Frist of all, this film show us three different plots in wich the protagonist “Lola” makes different decisions. Each decision has a different planing or structure and some decisions doesnt, thats an important concept that is called “spontaneity”wich Tom Tykwer referred in must part of the movie. We can say that spontaneity is important in making decisions, because sometimes you feel that you dont know what to do and you decide to do the first thing that comes in to your mind. “Lola rennt” contains both of this kind of decisions, even we know it is fiction it gives us a feeling of reality.
Another important concept is learning. Why learning? because in life we learn from mistakes and in the film Lola learns from hers, for examle in the first plot she made her decision and in the end it was not what she expected so in the second plot she learned from the first time and tried to fix it, of coarse the other decision she`ve made changed all over the plot, but again at the end it wasnt what she wanted and it even got worse. Learn from mistakes it seems to be an easy task but when you realized that what you`ve made was not the right thing you get desperate or stressed so you made an another decision that brings you chaos or disorder and thats what happened to Lola.
The last plot makes the difference and it is the perfect example for spontaneity, when Lola realices that all the decisions she’ve made werent right she starts to get in panic and began to think “oh what Im going to do?” , so she starts making quick decisions and acting spontaneously, if planed decisions dont work why not trying not planed ones? She is in a position where she has no more options she has to do the first thing she thinks. Sometimes in real life acting spontaneously can help you in different and problematic situations and of coarse it can get worse. In real life and in fiction exits a lot of posibilites and anything can happen.
As I said it before Lola rennt is a great example, the differents plottings are awesome, each different decisions Lola made takes her to other problems and obviously she has to made new decisions, each time she made a mistake, each time she hits, each time she gets desperate, kept us in the movie and help us understand more about life and the important decisions that we make, we even think about “not that important” decisions in life. Every day we wake up we made a decision, opening your eyes or not it could be a crucial decision, and thats what makes life interesting and not monotonous.
